I completely agree with everything Karen mentions here. I have known several people who weren’t much when it comes to traditional intelligence, but they managed to become very successful and I definitely attribute it to their personalities. How can you go really far if you don’t have the personality to get you there? The only thing is, though, I don’t think things like conscientiousness and curiosity can be taught. You either have those traits or you don’t.

There are different types of intelligence and depending on your strong suits you can certainly be successful and wealthy without being traditionally educated. I’ve been able to use my schooling to continue in a position of learning because that’s what I love. I know plenty of others who do their best work with their hands and can build anything without instructions. We define ourselves as successful and smart in our ways, though wealth is another thing entirely.

I have a problem with slowing down and really understanding what’s going on around me. I tend to get an idea of what’s going on and use that as my premise rather than really listening. I will try meditation. Maybe it will slow me down a little.

I don’t think you have to be smart to be successful. One person in particular strikes me as an example: Donald Trump. If he was as smart as he thinks he is, he wouldn’t say the stupid things he does that gets him in trouble. No smarts there.

Smarts are not a prerequisite for being wealthy. Some people are born into it and I think Donald Trump was one of them. He’s definitely not the sharpest knife in the cupboard when it comes to opening his mouth with his brain dis-engaged.

Wealth in the truest sense has always been something passed down in families. There used to be (maybe there still is) a distinction between “old” money “new” money. In high society, those with “new” money didn’t have the same manners, but were welcomed because the wealthy stick together. Intelligence has absolutely nothing to do with it.
