I think if most people really looked deep within themselves, they would find that we have very little complete control over the choices we make. We may be tribal by nature and, therefore, seek the input of others, but the world around us is more influential than ever and I think because of that, we are less in control than ever before.

I definitely use reviews to make decisions on products and restaurants, but I don’t look at it as having lost control. I appreciate the information others provide when it comes to choosing the right fit for me. Often reviews warn of sizing being off when it comes to clothing, or fire risks related to electronics. I’ve steered clear of some shady products and websites thanks to the feedback of others.

My parents told me that I could grow up to be anything I wanted in life. That is where my ideals were formed. You have total control of what you do, when you do it, and how you do it. My parents always told me that you have to take responsibility for your actions!

We have control over some of our day-to-day. Like I get to choose when I work on one task instead of another. When it comes to bigger things, I think our parents were supposed to give us that control. Individuals reach a point when they have to make decisions and move on, but it’s only possible if given the strength and creativity to do it. I’m not in control of much personally since that was never really given to me. I follow others rules and do what it is that I think I’m supposed to do, not the things I actually want to do.
